FOUNDER’S DAY 2020
HOLY CHILD REPLAY
The History of Holy Child
As we celebrate Founder’s Day 2020, it is important to look back at the history of what led the school to be the institution that it is today.
Prior to founding the school, Mrs. Victoria D. Leuterio was offered a scholarship for a pre-nursing course at Ateneo de Davao University. However, it was a requirement to have a full set of nursing clothes, which Ma’am Vicky did not have the means to produce at that time. Because of this, she was not able to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.
Years passed and Ma’am Vicky married Mr. Leopoldo M. Leuterio and they lived on a farm in Gumalang with their three children. One morning, a tractor passed by and her children were amazed, since they had never seen one before. Upon seeing this, Ma’am Vicky realized how small their world seemed and felt that she wanted more for her family. This was the pivotal moment that led Ma’am Vicky to move back to the city and continue her education.
Full of prayers and hope, she spoke with one of the Jesuit priests in Ateneo and asked if she could still continue her pre-nursing scholarship. The priest, aware of her intelligence and diligence, wanted Ma’am Vicky to be one of their teachers someday and so he offered her an Education scholarship instead. Ma’am Vicky agreed and took up Elementary Education, where she excelled in her studies and graduated as the only Cum Laude in her department.
The Holy Child College of Davao is a Bible-based school that aims to empower its community of workers and students to become servant leaders who continuously endeavor to respond to GOD’S WILL.
